SEARCH
Scientifically Educating Appalachian Rural Communities and Homes
SEARCH was created in late 2013 by C. J. Clark, Nate Hardy, and previous member, Jack S. These three members and this project would become the foundation that today's Appalachian Science Experiment is built upon. The goal of the project was to create a mobile science center that would be used with middle school students across the high country area. The concept was created though 2013-14 and was entered in the 2014 Christopher Columbus Awards. The project advanced to the national level, one of only eight teams to do so. There the team competed to win a $25,000 grant to make the project a reality. The national competition was held at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and all of the teams gave presentations to compete for the grant.
The project consisted of seven science stations that could be packed into a trailer and taken to large public spaces for middle school students to learn from. These stations included, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, electronics, ecology and geology, with different experiments connected to each.
Sadly, SEARCH did not win the grant, and the Christopher Columbus Awards were shut down less than a year later. However, without this project, the Appalachian Science Experiment of today could not exist.

The above video is the presentation that sent the SEARCH team to the national competition. It was originally created in January of 2014 by the three members of the team. This is the original version of this film, the audio is very unstable and quiet, it is recommended that you turn up your speaker volume.

The above video is the presentation that the SEARCH science team gave at the Christopher Columbus Awards which were held at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The team first presented in front of a panel of judges, and then presented to guests and other participants in the competition. This is the latter presentation.
